First things first, THANK YOU for booking us and presenting us with the opportunity to help you create beautiful photographs for your family. Our intent in our work is to capture your dog's spirits and individual personalities, as well as your family's magic - authentically. For your dogs, we want to record all the little nuances, their big world, their funny facial expressions, and, of course, their huge love. For your family, we want to photograph the heart of your connection, to create a lasting record that will stand the test of time. This guide is our attempt to walk you through the preparation process. It contains a full guide to preparing for your session, some further information about what to expect before, during, and after your session, and a detailed description of some of the fun things you can look forward to shopping for in your gallery!

PUP+ME Session Prep Guide by Monica Adalsteinsson

This guide has been created and refined over years of experience, so it typically answers 90% of the questions that come up, but we’re always happy to set up a time to chat if you want additional help.

A week before our session is scheduled, we'll reach out to confirm our time and location. At that point, if the forecast is questionable or someone seems to be coming down with the flu, we can talk about our rescheduling options. Otherwise, that's the perfect time to ask any last-minute questions.

Finally, take a breath and relax. We promise to give your pups sniff breaks throughout the session as needed, and to make it as painless as possible for everyone involved.

Let’s shop!

What you're going to do with your images is perhaps the most important aspect to consider when you're planning for a photo session, but it's all too often the aspect that's overlooked, all that time and money invested deserve a better return than photos gathering dust on a hard drive somewhere. You'll never get the same feeling looking at your photos on a screen as you will seeing them on your wall or flipping through the pages of an album, so l include a substantial print credit with every collection. Below is a sample of some of the items you can choose among.

Your gallery will be online and available for purchase for 3 days, and after that, it’ll be archived. No surprises though—I’ll send you a reminder the day before the gallery goes live! Once you’ve made your purchase, you’ll have a full month to pick out your favorite digital files and prints for your collection, totally stress-free. FAQs

  • Absolutely! We understand that you may want to have every single moment captured, and we offer flexible payment plans to make it easier for you to get all the images from your session. Just reach out to us at hello@pupandmephoto.com, and we can set up a payment plan that fits your budget. In the email, let us know how much you'd like to pay and what schedule works best for you. This way, you can have all the beautiful memories with your pup!

  • Yes! We absolutely love harnesses and think they are beautiful! They are also so much more comfy for your pup to wear!
Need some harness tips? Email us and we’d love to send you our favorite brands of harnesses!

  • You must come to your session with your dog/s on a leash. You must hold the leash during your session.

We bring two bio-thane long lines (12 foot leashes) in case you need them!

    No flexi/retractible leashes.
    No electric collars.
    No prong collars.
    No head leaders.
Children will not be allowed to walk dogs/hold leash during the session.

  • Our schedule is pretty loose. Sessions usually average 45 minutes, sometimes they’re shorter and sometimes they’re longer. Your dog will tell us when they’re done and I always listen to your dog. I want your dog to have just as a good experience as you, when they’re done they are done!

  • Yes! If there is more than 1 dog, my partner Evan will be there to pupsit while we photograph one on one photos. If you’re pup isn’t a fan of new people (we get it!), I recommend bringing a friend along to help.

If you have more than 3 dogs, please bring an additional pup handler.

  • I hate to be a party pooper, but I need to be upfront with you. I just want to photograph your dog being themselves. No props or crazy clown outfits. I want photos of you and your dog relaxed and having a good time.

  • Photos will be delivered 2 to 3 weeks after our session. After our session you will receive a link to a beautiful online slideshow where you will be able to sit back and view the slideshow in the comfort of your home.

  • You will receive about 40 fully edited proofs to drool over and choose among. Check out my galleries to get an idea of what I offer.

  • Your dog does not need to be still during our session. Your dog doesn’t need to know any commands, yes that is right! I practice my dog photography with force free methods. What does “force free” mean? It’s also referred to as R+, which is positive reward based methods. It means that we will not be punishing your dog in any way, we won’t be forcing them to do anything that they do not want to do. We will be allowing them to make their own choices and encourage them to be themselves so that I can capture them as they are. Your dog will lead the session, if they want to look off in to the distance, then you will look off in to the distance with them, if they want to plop and rollover for belly rubs, then we give belly rubs.

  • We love kids and love their relationship with dogs, but we only photograph kids that are 10 and older.
