5 Tips on What to Wear to a Photo Session in Phoenix

Picking out what to wear to your photo session is hard! Here are some easy tips to help guide you on what to wear.

  1. Choose a color palette. You can google Desert Palette or even Holiday Palette and choose colors from that palette. This helps everyone have a similar tone without being super matchy. You can match the palette to your dog’s accessories too! I have found that Dog + Bone has great colors that will match any palette. I have photographed people wearing stripes and fun prints and have photographed people wearing solid colors, I don’t notice any difference in the way the photos turn out, wear what colors make you happy!

  2. Wear clothes that make you feel good. Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident! That is most important, do you feel good in your outfit? For me, I feel great in a tee shirt and jeans and often will have photos done in that type of outfit.

  3. Dress to have a good time with your dog. Keep in mind if you are comfortable sitting on the ground with your dog in the outfit, it might get dirty, and I always ask that clients get down on the ground with their dog. Wear practical shoes. A lot of times we’re not on paved roads and you’re walking your dog, things can get a bit bumpy with improper foot wear.

  4. Wear layers. We live in an area that changes temps. I suggest wearing an extra layer to take off if you get hot, or layer up if you’re cold! This can also create different looks during your shoot.

  5. If you’re including partners with your Pup + Me Session, match the tone of dress as your partner. I’ve had sessions where one person is completely dressed up and formal, and their partner is looking like they’re ready to work out, this can look a bit odd. If you’re doing photos with a partner, make sure that you are on the same page as far as how formal you are dressing. My advice: try to dress like you are going to the same event.
